Building Workplace Readiness: AUT Students Explore Emotional Intelligence with Industry Expert

The American University of Technology (AUT), in collaboration with its Hospitality Management Club, recently hosted an interactive workshop on Emotional Intelligence (EI), led by industry professional Berthe Barakat. The session was specifically designed for Hospitality Management students, aligning closely with the interpersonal and service-oriented demands of the field.

Focused on bridging academic learning with real-world application, the workshop explored the role of emotional intelligence in enhancing workplace performance, leadership effectiveness, and guest relations. Participants engaged in practical exercises aimed at developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and social skills – core competencies essential in hospitality environments.

Barakat emphasized that technical knowledge alone is no longer sufficient for career success. Instead, professionals must be equipped to navigate complex human interactions, manage stress, and respond constructively to challenges. Through case-based discussions and scenario analysis, students examined how emotional intelligence directly impacts teamwork, conflict resolution, and customer satisfaction.

Organized by the Hospitality Management Club, the workshop reflects AUT’s commitment to providing targeted, field-specific experiential learning opportunities. By integrating industry insight into co-curricular activities, the University continues to prepare Hospitality students with the professional and interpersonal skills required to excel in a competitive global industry.
