Introduction
A world-class postgraduate Laws program.
AUT has teamed up with the University of London to give lawyers in Lebanon the opportunity to pursue their postgraduate studies towards a Master of Laws (LLM) based on Common Law.
This is offered by University of London as a distance learning program for international students who cannot leave their home countries for study.
A memorandum of understanding with the Beirut Bar Association established the LLM Support Program at the Beirut Bar Association in 2011. The Tripoli Bar Association lawyers also have access to this program.
Having operated many joint academic ventures with universities all over the world, AUT brings its international experience to ensure the success of the LLM program. The program is under the academic direction of the prestigious University College London- UCL- (ranked #2 in the UK) and Queen Mary University (ranked #8 in the UK)
The LLM degree from University of London will improve notably the careers of lawyers and business people as it did with the graduates who studied through AUT.
AUT established a Support Office for the University of London – UoL, Master of Laws – LLM Program in Lebanon ever since it signed an agreement with the Beirut Bar Association and University of London. By being the only Recognized Teaching Center for University of London in Lebano, AUT was able to support a large number of lawyers and professionals complete graduate studies in law successfully.

The University of London LLM PROGRAM AND STRUCTURE
The LL.M degree is composed of 4 courses, each composed of 4 modules (A, B, C, and D)
– Upon completion of 5 modules, you will earn a Post-Graduate Certificate (PG Cert, EXIT AWARD) with the concentration/specialization you wish for from the list of options provided by the University
– Upon completion of another 5 modules (equaling in total 10 modules), you will earn a Post-Graduate Diploma (PD Dip, EXIT AWARD) with the concentration/specialization you wish for from the list of options provided by the university – PGDip
– Upon completion of the final/remaining 6 modules OF WHICH 3 COURSES UNDER THE SAME SPECIALIZATION), you will earn your LL.M Degree with the concentration/specialization of your choice from the list of options provided by the university.

The Program is based on comprehensive Study Guides written by subject experts, as well as access to extensive online learning materials for each course: introductory videocasts, online revision forums, e-materials, e-forums, and e-clinics with the Dean.

The AUT Support Courses
The aim of the LLM Support Office is to help lawyers enrolled with UoL to get academic support in the form of courses so that they pass the University of London exams that were held at the British Council and marked by UoL faculty.
These are currently offered online through the LLM Support Office, based on a comprehensive and cooperative framework aiming to spread international and comparative legal knowledge in Lebanon.
Preparatory courses are offered online over 16 hours per module providing academic assistance and revisions, covering study guides, reading materials, and previous exams. They aim at helping learners pass the UoL exams with success.
Details and fees are posted on each course/module announcement. Sessions are optional and offered by a group of highly qualified judges, lawyers, professors, and academics.

English Support Courses
In addition to support for law modules given by UoL, AUT offers a series of Online Courses that help students reach the right English level needed to be admitted in the LLM program. The courses are:

Admission Requirements
For the LLM entry point, you normally need one of the following:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of London, or equivalent, with at least second-class honours; or
- A Bachelor’s degree from the University of London, or equivalent, with at least second-class honours, where at least half the units are in law-related subjects;
- Lebanon’s accredited universities degrees are accepted
If you do not meet the LLM entry requirements, successful completion of the PGDip will allow progression to the LLM.
For the PGDip entry point, you normally need the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from the University of London, or equivalent (Lebanon accredited universities are accepted), with at least second-class honours.
If you do not meet the PGDip entry requirements, successful completion of the PGCert will allow progression to the PGDip.
For entry to the PGCert, you normally need one of the following:
- A post-school qualification in any discipline which is at least 1-year full time in duration and considered comparable to at least FHEQ level 4; or
- At least five years’ relevant work experience, such as accounting, banking, finance or insurance.
Your entry point is just your starting point in the Postgraduate Laws programs. Once you satisfy the requirements of the PGCert, you may progress to the PGDip, and then on to the LLM, provided that you complete your study within five years.
English language requirements
You need a high standard of English to study this program. You meet our language requirements if you have achieved one of the following within the past three years:
- (IELTS) International English Language Testing System – overall score of at least 6.5 and at least 6 in the written test.
- (TOEFL) Test of English as a Foreign Language – overall score of 92 or above with at least 22 in the Reading and Writing sub-tests and at least 20 in the Speaking and Listening sub-tests.
- A proof of English proficiency by an accepted law form or commercial company in Lebanon can be accepted
Fees
There are fees for registration with UoL and for each module and there are fees for the AUT Support courses.

However please note that a special reduction of 40% on UoL tuition fees has been decided for students who register through AUT due to the financial situation that prevails in Lebanon.
