In collaboration with the Koura Municipalities Federation, AUT department of Nutrition and External Relations continued the campaign on diabetes awareness teaming with Dr Rania Mais of Nini Hospital and the Federation of Municipalities of Koura.
General information on diabetes was provided by Dr Mais while AUT Nutrition Chair Paola Labaky spoke of the relation between food additives and diabetes. AUT Dean of Research later gave useful information on the prevention of diabetes.
This was followed by a demonstration of a new blood sugar testing device Diabeat, presented by university students who ranked first in AUT Create competition for innovation.
It was clear to all that changes in lifestyles and eating habits have become unavoidable in order to prevent the high incidence of diabetes in Lebanon.
Members of Parliament George Atallah and the president of the Federation Malek Fares had their blood sugar tested to encourage a very interested audience to take such tests often and spread around the information they acquired .
