The American University of Technology (AUT) proudly announces that Ms. Nay Hinain, lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Technology and Director of Student Affairs, has published a peer-reviewed research article in the Journal of Psychology & Psychiatry. Titled “The Effects of Callous Unemotional Traits on Youth Delinquency”, the paper explores how emotional detachment and empathy deficits contribute to delinquent behavior in adolescents.
The article, published under the AUT academic affiliation, marks an important milestone in AUT’s ongoing commitment to impactful, socially relevant research. Ms. Hinain’s work sheds light on how callous-unemotional (CU) traits – such as lack of empathy, guilt, or emotional expression – correlate with a higher likelihood of persistent antisocial behavior, especially among male adolescents.
“This research offers a fresh lens into the psychological and environmental factors shaping juvenile delinquency,” Ms. Hinain noted. “It also highlights the importance of therapeutic relationships and positive social environments as protective factors.”
Drawing on a wide range of empirical studies, the article advocates for evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of high-CU youth, emphasizing the limitations of purely punitive approaches. Ms. Hinain also calls for greater attention to familial, therapeutic, and environmental buffers that can positively shift developmental outcomes.
This publication reflects AUT’s mission to bridge academic theory with societal application and to elevate Lebanon’s contributions to global research dialogue in psychology, criminology, and mental health.
