Maroun Azouri
Audio Visual Arts Coordinator

The man, who is nicknamed Dad by his students, carries with him a diversity of identities shaped out of various experiences in various cultures.
Having earned a bachelor of interior architecture from A.L.B.A he then went for technical studies in:
Fine Arts from Academia di Roma, Painting and Sculpture, Theater and Film Design in Italy, Costume design in Paris Opera House and finally studied Light Design in New York.
Upon finishing his studies and for 30 years, Maroun worked on the opera and theater modern ballets in major opera houses around the world and produced many films and plays.
When it was time to come back home to Lebanon in 1988 he took up teaching at A.L.B.A and AUT and then moved as full-timer to dedicate himself to AUT.
Why he decided to come back home is simple: Maroun felt homesick and also wanted to give something to Lebanon. “ Having not been active during the war I came back to be active culturally”, he says in his English tainted with French accent.
When asked about his philosophy in life, the answer comes straight: “It’s not easy to be a star”
What is so special about AUT for Maroun Azouri? “For young people, AUT is more like a home for culture than just being a student with a number”
