When you meet Antoinette Karam, what strikes you is her self confidence and assurance. Having had quite a long experience at such a young age, she has acquired traits that help her a lot when it comes to dealing with faculty and students. A perfectionist and a determined mind, she also sees herself as highly organized (and that is testified to by both faculty and students) , but “not so patient after all”, she insists. The youngest of 5 sisters with one younger brother, Antoinette was a leader at her school and was often in trouble with administrators that never allowed creativity. Her first paid work was at 15 when she trained children to ski. Upon finishing high school, Antoinette went on to earn a degree in travel and tourism and worked at a travel agency then in hospitality before she landed a job in 2005 as purchasing manager with Mango stores and took several trips to Madrid where she attended several management training workshops.Of her current position as assistant to the dean of the faculty of Arts at AUT, she says, “it is morally very rewarding to work closely with students and faculty because it carries an element of warmth and care and is not stressful or rather less stressful than my proviso job.”Her favorite quote is” do not look back and ask why; look forward and ask why not.” Way to go Miss Karam!
