Seminars in Business Series of Lectures |

AUT will host guest speakers from the business community to speak mainly to students registered in the Seminars in Business course this spring 2007 semester at AUT Halat.
The guests have been selected to represent all sectors of Lebanon’s economy: sales and trade, economics, marketing, finance, auditing, human resources, IT… Each speaker has extensive experience in his/her field and has acquired leadership positions in the industry.
The first guest was former Minister of Finance, Damianos Kattar who spoke about the economic policies followed in Lebanon in the last 10 years and proposed his ideas through a talk he chose to call “Reforming the State or Repositioning the Nation”. This was held March 6 at 12 pm at the AUT auditorium in Halat and inaugurated the series of lectures.
This series is open to all Business students and this text will be updated with speakers names and dates of lectures as often as needed.

April 20 at 12 noon: Raja Haddad, CEO of Starmanship: An Introduction to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The closing ceremony of the 2nd Regional Human rights Camp ended with the announcement by AUT’s coordinator for Human Rights, Dr Iwona Safi of the creation of the Center for Human Rights based at AUT Halat.
The Center’s mission is to disseminate the culture of human rights in the Lebanese society tapping on the resources of the University as well as those of institutions involved in human rights. It will work closely with civil and educational institutions to create more awareness concerning the topic and provide training for people involved in the defense of human rights.
The closing ceremony, which took place on January 18, concluded a 10-day camp dedicated to train 19 trainers who came from 11 Arab countries and done with the UN Office of the Higher Commissioner for Human Rights, Amnesty International, the Arab Institute for Human Rights, the Institute for Human Rights of the Beirut Bar Association.

The 2nd Regional Human Rights Camp co-organized by AUT was officially inaugurated on January 10, 2007 at 4 pm at Rotana Hazmieh Hotel in presence of over 120 guests representing various sectors of the Lebanese society.
Speeches were given by the representatives of the six organizing institutions including AUT.
In her address, AUT President Ghada Hinain pointed to the necessity of disseminating the culture of human rights within the younger generations, insisting on the pioneering role of AUT in this respect. She said inserting courses on human rights as university requirements and as requirements for the Business school curriculum will help students integrate human rights principles in their future careers. She also expressed the view that conflicts arise because people still do not accept the fact that all people are equal in their rights.
The ambassador of the Netherlands, the representative of the UN Higher Commissioner for Human Rights, the director of the MENA area for Amnesty International, the representative of the Arab Institute of Human Rights and the director of the Human Rights Institute of the Beirut Bar Association also gave addresses insisting on the importance of disseminating the culture of human rights in the Arab world.
The first part of the Camp is a
Training of Trainers 8-day workshop with over 20 participants from Lebanon and Arab countries including Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan,
Iraq, Palestine, KSA.

MBA in Tourism Management |

In the scope of its commitment to offer its students wider educational choices, AUT has finalized an agreement of cooperation with New York College in Greece and Institut Universitaire Kurt Bosch (IUKB) in Switzerland, in virtue of which AUT will offer an Executive MBA in Tourism Management leading to a degree by IUKB. The courses will be taught at AUT in majority by eminent tourism experts from France, Switzerland and Greece in short residency modules. Other courses will be taught by AUT faculty.
This is the only program of this degree of excellence to be offered in Lebanon and we are happy that the fruits of months of negotiations have finally borne fruit. educational choices.
The director of graduate studies, Jean-Claude Abi Saab concluded the agreement upon his trip to Athens on December 1.

Students of Public Relations and Journalism at AUT met with U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer, Juliet Wurr on Thursday, November 30, 2006 for a presentation on the activities undertaken by the Public Affairs Office.Wurr spoke about the public diplomacy efforts her office conducts and spoke of its relation with the Lebanese media. A comparison between those media and U.S. media followed in terms of objectivity of reporting.
Students had a chance to inquire about other issues such as the US foreign policy strategy and women’s role in the society.

Special Placement

In order to serve the students who took the second round of exams for the Lebanese baccalaureate certificate, AUT will hold placement exams in English and Math in Halat at the following dates:Thursday, November 16: 9:30 am
Friday, November 17: 9:30 am
Registration for the exams is daily from 8 am to 5 pm.

Applicants should note that testing in Math is not needed for majors under the department of Arts.

English Surgery at AUT |

The Writing Assistance Centre has reopened on Monday, 30th October, 2006 with a new name to suit the rapidly changing world. The "English Surgery" will address all ailments and disorders and will also surgically remove any malfunctions in the use of the English language among the AUT students. Our aim is to reach a healthy level of spoken and written English throughout the campus in the most painless way possible. The Surgery is situated in AG114; we maintain and "open door" policy and will be available at the following times:
