MP Ibrahim Kanaan on Independence at AUT

A debate gathered AUT students and MP Ibrahim Kanaan around the topic of independence on Tuesday November 21. The debate was organized by the Human Rights Club at AUT and attracted over 100 students in the auditorium. A brief presentation of MP Kanaan about the orientation taken by his parliamentary group in view of the current regional developments and about the importance of universities contribution to the future of the Lebanese policies served as an introduction. Then questions were asked about the hot topics of the moment and allowed an honest  interaction between the guest and the students.

The event was concluded by planting a cedar tree at the entrance of AUT to celebrate the 2005 independence day.

The AUT Social Club’s Tribute to May Chidiac

MP Antoine Zahra, journalist Ali Hamade and Micheline Baaklini were gathered at AUT on November 1 to speak about the freedom of speech as a tribute to the LBC journalist, May Chidiac, who was the target of an assassination attempt 5 weeks ago.

Also present was the Lebanese Forces Students Association president, Daniel Spiro

The guests each spoke of the importance of the freedom of expression and the role played by the media in the latest changes that Lebanon witnessed, all praising the courage shown by Chidiac before and after her assassination attempt and the courage shown by the free press in Lebanon.

Questions were later addressed to Hamade and Zahra concerning the latest UN resolution and its implications on the regional scene before all the audience and the guests moved into the Agora Tunnel to inscribe their signatures on a flag of Lebanon that was to be taken to Chidac from the AUT students and community.
