Our IT services strategy

Information Technology constitutes a very important infrastructure factor in education. The alignment between the overall education goals and the IT strategy improves the teaching/learning process. It is a dynamic process that brings, if well implemented, an important potential of business and a higher standard of education.

Since we have integrated IT in the environment, the role of teachers, administrators, technology coordinators and students and the overall pedagogical approach has drastically changed.

Our strategy for Education is:

  • To endorse technology-enhanced education
  • To realize and enhance everyone's full potential
  • To update the Information Technology infrastructure in a cost effective way.
  • To bring distinction to through an integrated approach to teaching and learning
  • To increase student and staff satisfaction with the delivery of technology enhanced education
  • To create opportunities through research, initiatives, partnerships and new technologies.

Our strategy in using the IT in education

A- The use of Technology to add value to the Teaching/Learning process:

  • As a basic supporting tool to regular instruction
  • As an updated refresher
  • It focuses on students instead of classrooms
  • It provides wider access to educational material
  • It supports students and teachers in their interactive work
  • It creates new solutions empowered by IT

B- The enhancement of the curriculum:

  • It organizes the resources with links to the Web, electronic databases, teacher created solutions, support documents and sources of print and electronic resources.
  • It facilitates communication among administrators, students, teachers (emails, forums, video conferencing, web seminars, etc.).
  • It develops and promotes E-Learning
  • It provides online monitoring of student performance
  • It integrates technology in educational delivery

To realize this strategy, we have taken the following measures:

Secure Connected Infrastructure:

  • Over 150 IBM PC’s are in the service of the LABs and the Academic Departments
  • A SUN Microsystems computer lab.
  • The use of Software and applications tools for practical work and interactive learning for Graphics Arts, Math, Business, IT and Computer Science, as well as computer and communication engineering.
  • The domain aut.edu is hosted at on MS Windows server 2003 at the main campus in Halat.
  • The mail server running is Microsoft Exchange 2003, configured behind a Mail Relay.
  • The Internet services are provided to all campuses through a central connection at HALAT with a speed of 256 kb/s upload and 1 Mb/s download via satellite dish. The access to the Internet is controlled through several levels of authorization and a specific suitable strategy for applications and access limitations.
  • Our remote sites at Halat, Tripoli and Jounieh are connected to the central site over a 256 Kbit/s Microwave link each.
  • We have a new Webassist (or Dokeos) Learning Management System that effectively helps the teachers and the trainers to create educational content and supervise the students’ activities in both self-learning and collaborative learning on the web. Moreover, it helps the students and the trainees to organize their learning, communicate, self-evaluate and remind deadlines. It is fully compatible with all computers and all browsers that we know.
  • The SCT Banner System for students’ registration and overall database is Oracle-based, internet-native technology solution and a rule-based system.  It helps manage data strategically. Banner consolidates each student's record into one, from recruitment to graduation stages.  Currently, Banner Student serves more than 8 million students all over the world.  is proud to be part of this network.  (Please read more below about the Banner System)
  • Our Website at www.aut.edu provides agreeable, interactive and graphic animated web page through which you can have access to all University information, constituencies and events. In addition, prospects may apply for admissions online; students may register online; faculty may manage course information online, etc.

We definitely, I and the IT team, are doing our utmost efforts, and using all our expertise to maintain  among the leading universities in Lebanon, if not in the Middle East, through the deployment of the most modern and most up to date technologies
